“Oh! You have head lice. You can get some sort of disease from them.”
“Look at this kid, he has head lice. He is gross.”
“I don’t want to sit with her. She has head lice and they are a health hazard.”
“Did you see this guy? He has nits all over his head. He probably doesn’t wash his hair every day.”
All I want to say is… Myths, myths and myths!
There is no truth in the statements mentioned above. They are wrongly associated with head lice and people, especially children in school, have to face mean and rude remarks because of such misconceptions.
Here are the Facts That You Must Remember About Head Lice before starting Head Lice Treatment
- Head lice do not transfer any disease
- Head lice are not a health hazard
- Head lice don’t make you nasty or gross
- You can’t kill head lice by washing your hair every day
We need to realize that people who get head lice don’t actually volunteer to get them. They were transferred through other people’s head or commonly used things that had been infested.
So, it’s not a good idea to call them gross or bad.
No-Nit Policy in Some Schools and Day-Care
In some schools, there is a policy that if a kid has nits in hair, he or she can’t join school until there are no nits. So, until that kid gets rid of all the nits by going through a head lice treatment, he or she will have to stay away from school. Schools and day-care centers are the places from where children are likely to get infested.
However, I don’t like this policy.
The main reason is that when children return to school, they have to deal with a new problem. Yes, they get bullied because of the fact that they once had head lice in their hair.
Head-shaving is considered to be a viable option, but the fact of the matter is that most students don’t feel comfortable with it, especially a girl. Most students will feel uncomfortable in school with a bald head. Not to mention the smart remarks they will receive from fellow students.
Plus, there is no guarantee that after the hair grows, they won’t get head lice again. Just like other solutions, head-shaving is also a temporary solution.
Now…Back to the topic.
Head lice treatment is necessary when a person’s head is infested by head lice. Head lice are not hazardous or nasty and they don’t transfer any disease either.
So, be cool if you get them… and be cool with those who have them.
