There are various over the counter shampoos available that lice hate, because they kill head lice in a matter of minutes only. Different manufacturers create different types of anti-lice shampoos, and thus you must ensure that you read the instructions completely because they all are different and have different requirements.
If you are interested in killing head lice with insecticides, then you can buy an anti-lice shampoo from your local pharmacy. However, these products should not be used by women who are either pregnant or breastfeeding. They shouldn’t be used on infants either.
One important point to note here is that lice have become resistant to some insecticides. So, your head lice treatment with shampoo might fail too. Remember, if a particular shampoo has worked successfully for someone, then it doesn’t mean it will produce the same results for you as well. You have to pick and try one over the counter shampoo and see if it works for you or not.
If you use shampoo, then you will have to wash your hair after a few minutes, like 10 minutes or so. Since the shampoo doesn’t have direct contact with lice for long, it might not be an effective head lice treatment. This is why some people prefer lotions as you can keep them on for hours and kill head lice effectively.
However, it doesn’t mean shampoos are not effective. They are effective and people continue to use them to kill head lice… easily and effectively!
